CCP Staff Pray for the New Believers
The staff prayer day was held on April 6th, 2010 at the CCP’s Community Center, Kawangware. The staff shared their Follow Up discipleship program experiences and prayed for the new believers. Pst. Boniface Sinkale, the Spiritual Ministry Lead spoke about ‘Servanthood’ from the Bible in the book of Malachi 3: 14-18. He said that servanthood is a life of commitment for a course that is eternal. A servant sacrifices for the sake of others, labors out of love, has a heart for the people, submits to the authority, faithfully serves the master and creates a relationship with the people he/she serves. Pst. Sinkale called upon the staff to passionately serve the new believers as God recognized their service. “Serving God is not futile,” he said. Later on, the staff meditated on the word of God. On the other hand, every staff involved in Follow Up, testified how the program positively transformed him/her. Some staff witnessed that the program enabled them study and meditate on the word of God, consistently memorizing scriptures as well as praying. “Nowadays I always wake up at four in the morning to pray for at least one hour,” commented Emmanuel Mlewa, a Social Worker. In addition, some developed virtues such as patience, humility and perseverance. Freshia Muchoki, a Social Worker, was challenged to initiate Follow Up program in their church, “There is no such program in our church and I’m just challenged to start one (Follow Up),” said Freshia. Jim Behr, the CCP’s Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said that the program was a tool to help the staff make disciples as stated in the Bible in the book of Mathew 28: 19. In the afternoon, the staff were divided into four groups and discussed their encounters with the new believers. The staff pointed out ignorance, language barrier, inconsistency, cults, limited time and cultural beliefs such as witchcraft as challenges faced. Despite of the challenges, the program effectively transformed the new believer’s spiritual lives. “Nowadays, the children that I have been following up can enthusiastically read the Bible as well as pray for themselves which is very encouraging,” said Francis Baraza, a Study Hall Teacher. Later on, the staff prayed for the new believers based on the challenges mentioned. The program has 52 new believers including children, pre teens, junior youth and adults. Currently, 5 adults, 10 children and 2 junior youth have been followed up. The program helps new believers be sure of their salvation, be rooted in their faith and develop the spiritual self feeding habits.
