Advanced Tuition Parents’ Meeting
CCP Advanced Tuition parents’ meeting was held on March 9, 2009 at the Community Center, Kawangware. Parents were informed about the Advanced Tuition Program, parental responsibilities, academic and social welfare of their children. Gloria Muliro, the Educational Ministry Lead, informed parents that the Advanced Tuition program assisted the best performing pupils from local government schools within Kawangware. The program offered free tutoring and library services to help pupils improve academically. This year, the program has 45 pupils from 3 classes (in levels 4, 5 and 6) with each class accommodating 15. The pupils are tutored in Mathematics, Social Studies and English subjects. Parents’ responsibilities were to encourage their children academically by analyzing with teachers their children’s performance, attend parent’s meeting and monitor the time their children arrive home after the classes. On the other hand, pupils should attend the program regularly, maintain discipline, be a link of communication between parents and teachers, respect their teachers as well as peers, maintain cleanliness and take good care of the CCP learning materials. A pupil could be disqualified from the program if he/she failed to attend classes regularly without a valid reason, transfered to another school far from the learning center, engaged in drug addiction, developed unruly behaviors and lack of cooperation from parents with the teachers. Martin Kioko, the Advanced Tuition teacher, updated parents with their children school progress. Sellah Nafula, the Director of Operations informed parents about the organization’s operations and called upon parents to cooperate with teachers for the benefit of their children. Later on, parents asked questions which were responded to.
